1994 Little Shop of Horrors
Resume of the Society:

In 1993 financial support from the 80 Founding Members and the King Island Dairies allowed the Society to be reformed and become the active enthusiastic group it is now.One major production is performed each year.

1994'Little Shop of Horrors', 2 sell out evening performances. With 100 volunteers, working towards a most successful first production.A donation to the High School Drama department was made from the profits.The puppetry (Audrey 11) plant outstanding work by props manager.Resurrecting 'Old Goal' as props room and discovering the useful props and flats from the original drama club still in good condition and reusable.Purchased basic lighting that was required.

1995'Dazzle'A space spectacular based on Star Trek.This comedy was performed on the twenty fifth anniversary of Star Trek. Talented seamstresses made space costumes for forty different characters.

1996'Something's Afoot' the challenge of a two story set, built with scaffolding borrowed from the local abattoirs.The musical score was a major challenge, involving group part singers and solo performers Special effects, including exploding staircases, and man eating urns tested the skills of the props artists.

1997'Arsenic and Old Lace' purchased a smoke machine.First non-musical, the challenge was wondering if acting alone would satisfy the audience. It did.

1998'Count Dracula', a satirical black comedy. Stage construction was magnificent giving a gothic stone effect. 1890's costumes were created for the actors. Stunning effects with bats flying out over the audience gave a realistic feel to the haunted castle set.1998 was the 100th anniversary of the 'Dracula' first being published.

1999'Oliver' an outstanding musical production with over 120 volunteers involved children included in the cast for the first time.Six-piece band included a very talented student who taught herself to play the flute in six months so she was able to participate. Attended by the Premier of Tasmania, Mr. Jim Bacon, and Patron for the Arts.Mr. P. (Sid) Sidebottom (Politician and ex Thespian) and, Education Department of Tasmania representatives. Amalgamated with the King Island Branch of the Tasmanian Regional Arts.

2006 'The Real Story of Puss in Boots' A purrfect pantomine combining very well-known Fairy Tales, comedy with "local" talent, including wonderful audience interaction.

THE FUTURE
To continue to produce successful stage productions.
To further enhance the Island's cultural experience by bringing working groups of artists to the Island.
To preserve the audio taped oral history recorded by pioneers of the Island.
To become more involved in locally initiated cultural events and exhibitions.

To foster talent and interest in arts and culture on a broader scale.
