I am descended from generations
of collectors, savers and makers. My home is a warehouse full of
"stuff" gathered from tips, roadsides, old houses and
clearing sales. Usually following a direct request or as an emotional
response to current happenings, some things inspire my own creations,
while I find good homes for others. Tanning wallaby and possum skins
came out of constantly seeing carcasses along the island roads.
They are such cleverly designed creatures and the fur is so gorgeous
I could not let it go to waste. The National Resources Management
Group ran a feral cat-trapping programme this year and I offered
to tan those skins as well, so when the Federal Environment Minister
visited and mentioned he'd love a cat skin hat I already had a supply
ready to experiment with. It is especially fulfilling to make useful
things.
Robyn Eades has explored
many artistic mediums including poetry, writing and craft. She is
renowned on the Island for her creations from tanned skins of road-kill.
Robyn is excited about exploring natural materials in highly crafted
and unique ways that combine utility, craft and modern lifestyle
that impacts on the natural habitat and the environment |
