The Strength or Stupidity of our Forebears!!!

This painting, The Strength or Stupidity of our Forebears!! is influenced by the history of the Bass Strait, Australia, with sailing ships from our "Motherland" passing by our rough shores on King Island. The use of a huge paintbrush, bright colours and flowing lines excites me. I have discovered paint and fun!

So much of King Island is below the surface, but hugely important to our survival. Most of what happens is under the surface of the pastures, the sea and rocks and you cannot see it. Crayfish, abalone, bugs, beetles in the soil that produce the incredible produce. The challenge is still here and I hope one day I will achieve the depth on paper or in pottery that I feel inside me.

Profile
Caroline was bought up with clay, mud and finger painting - Mrs Duldiq, a renowned sculptor, was her mentor in the 1950's. A year in Paris learning pottery and an architecture course in Melbourne, before marrying a farmer, cemented her creative talents.

Caroline has exhibited and sold since she was thirteen years old and loves seeing the joy that her art brings to others.

Caroline has worked as an interviewer on TV and radio. She came to King Island fifteen years ago, and started a pottery in what used to be the old newspaper office, and the Boathouse Gallery at Currie Habour.

King Island's natural resources, kelp, rocks, shells, beaches, timber is the inspiration to create art, kelp products and painting.
