Fascinated
by the kelp I have tried to capture the different moods,
colours and textures of the storm tossed kelp, as it lies
glistening at the water's edge
Barbara Day is
passionate about her Watercolour Painting. She is primarily
self-taught although she did workshops with a local artist
for one year. Already she is extending her artistic knowledge
and imagery from contact with the other artists in the project.
She loves painting the local coastline and historical sites.
Barbara has exhibited and sold her work regularly at the
Nautilus Café of King Island. Her work is in much
demand through commissions

Barbara has studied
painting seriously since 1990. She has always enjoyed painting
and was inspired by her grandmother, Mrs Ethel Thornycroft, a
well known watercolourist.
Barbara's husband Fred bought back from a trip some oil paints
and brushes. This encouraged her to enrol in painting classes
held be Newell Barret, an artist who resided on King Island at
the time, studying with him for a year. She continues to paint
and sell her work on King Island and by commissions, and has had
several exhibitions and awards.
