The
King Island Racing Carnival
The King
Island Racing Carnival is one of the few events that has been
able to continually operate for more than 100 years and the Racing
Club is very proud of being able to achieve such longevity.
The
President of the King Island Racing Club is Mr Rod McGarvie, the
Vice President, Mr Andrew Wardlaw and 10 committee members along
with two secretaries. The Club is predominantly run by volunteers
who do an amazing job. These volunteers, along with dedicated
and committed committee members, maintain the barriers, are local
stewards, clerks of the course, clerk of scales, judges, bar staff,
video operations, the list is endless.
The Carnival
is made up of seven meetings and caters for both Harness and Thoroughbred
Racing. This year's program is as follows:
Saturday 29 November 2008
Saturday 13th December 2008

Saturday 13th January
2009
Saturday 20th January

Saturday 27th January
2009

are held on New Years Day. Over the Christmas carnival the population
on the Island increases by 20% and the majority of both locals
and visitors attend.

are flown in from Melbourne on Race Days to support the Thoroughbred
