About King Island
Disclaimer
Our vision is of King Island being a world leader in integrated sustainable production and quality living.
Our mission is to promote co-ordinated and integrated management of natural resources, which will contribute to the economic and environmental sustainability of King Island.

Current events and activities:

  • Regional NRM coordination
    Connecting the King Island community with the Cradle Coast NRM Strategy development, and activities, grants and on-ground works for the sustainable management of our natural resources
  • Weeds Management Work
    Weeds targetted by the group to date are: Boneseed, Bridal creeper, Asparagus fern, Ragwort (Senecio jacobaea), Gorse, Serrated Tussock
    KINRMG completed the Council roadside weed mapping project
  • European Wasps have been baited on King Island over the Summer. There may be some reduction in population due to this. One nest was discovered and destroyed using insecticide powder. Nests are now finishing with new queens going off to hibernate over winter. They will then form new nests in Spring. An effort to monitor and bait European Wasps will resume next Spring/Summer. In the meantime, watch out for hibernating queens in wood piles, freight, and warm spots.
    Further Information on European Wasps (includes photos identifying the friendly native flower wasp and the European Wasp)
  • Salinity Management
    KISHAP - A project addressing management actions and hazard assessment of salinity on King Island.
  • Waterwatch
    Aims:
    To collect sound scientific data on the quality of King Island's key waterways;
    To inform & train the King Island community in "caring for waterways";
    To establish and maintain an island wide community-based water quality program.
  • Interim Cat Project
