Community Health
Provide a range of services for the frail, aged and disabled.
These include: Nursing Services in the home eg assistance
with showering & dressings, organising palliative care
in the home; Home Care - assistance with basic home duties;
Home Maintenance which is designed to provide a safe environment
within & around the home; Basic Foot Care Services ring
6462 9953 for appointment; Personal Care- organised through
liaison with Family Based Care N.W.; Community Health Education;
Liaison with Continence Nurse Diabetic Educator, Respiratory
Nurse, Aged Care Assessment Team and Occupational Therapy
Departments, TAS/Melbourne; Equipment Loans including assistance
with ordering; and Assessment for Meals On Wheels. Advice
on Community Care packages provided by Southern Cross Care.
Fees can apply to above services.. Account payments can be
made at the Main Office.
Referrals can be made by hospitals, doctors, friends and relatives
can refer but Community Nurses cannot visit without client

Day Centre
The Staff offer a range of support services for the frail,
aged and younger disabled. The Centre aims to support independence
and reduce isolation and loneliness. It provides respite for
Carers, information dissemination, personal care and support
services.
The Fun and Friendship group runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays
between 9:30 and 2:30. Lunch is available at these meetings
and the community bus can collect participants.
The Phoenix Group meets each Friday between 1pm and 5 pm at
Phoenix House, 24 Albert Street, Currie.
The Active Ageing group meets on Fridays at 9:30 until 12
noon at the Day Centre Meeting Room.
Volunteers assist with the provision of these services. This
is a HACC funded service so a fee applies. Contact 64629959.
Doctors Surgery- General Practice
(King Island General Medical Practice)
Gemini Medical Services provides medical services to individuals
treatment of illness and injury review of ongoing medical
conditions; minor surgical procedures, as well as health prevention
screening and education.
Hours: Monday to Friday, with exception of public holidays.
Doctors appointments - 9 am to 12.00, 2 pm to 5 pm.
Surgery is staffed from 8.45 am to 5.15 pm. Phone 6462 9915.
After Hours Emergencies
On weekends and public holidays: GP Assist (Tasmania) is a
health call line, staffed by specially trained Nurses and
Doctors who can provide advice by phone. Your Doctor can choose
to divert calls to this service when he or she is not immediately

Family, Child & Youth Health
This service offers support and information for families from
pregnancy through to adolescent years, and health monitoring
including: growth & development; vision; speech; and hearing.
The Child Health Clinic is generally Wednesday 1- 4 pm. School
Health is currently undertaken fortnightly during the school
year.

Health Promotions/Community Development
Undertakes the coordination of health promotion/community
development activities for the community. Working with the
community to protect and promote its health, addressing physical,
emotional, social, cultural and environmental issues.

Hospital
Provides acute care. Patients may be transferred for treatment
not available at this Centre, including delivery of babies.
There is a 24 hour Emergency Service, and outpatient clinics
with visiting medical specialists including: Psychiatrist;
Orthopaedic Surgeon; Physician; Ophthalmology and ENT Surgeon.
Immunisation
An immunisation clinic is held on the 3rd Wednesday of every
month. 10 - 11 am at the FCYH Clinic. Phone 6462 9915 for
an appointment.
Meals On Wheels
Service is coordinated by Day Centre and is provided on a
daily basis.

Mental Health
Kathy Stringer, Psychiatrist, visits quarterly, doctors referral
needed. Anna De La Rue, Psychologist, Doctors referral needed.
Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service will be visiting

Occupational Therapy
Visits on a needs basis. Consultations are by referral. Contact
6430 6608.
Pathology Services
These are provided between at the KI Hospital's outpatient
clinic, Mondays & Wednesdays 8-9.30am; & Friday 7.30-8.30am
(except public holidays). Doctor's referral is required.
Podiatry
Provided by visiting podiatrist every 3 months. Consultations
are by referral, and appointments made by direct contact with
Podiatry on 6421 7763.
Physiotherapy
Provided by a fortnightly visiting physiotherapist. Consultations
are by referral from Doctor. Appointments are made at the
Main Office.
Respite Care
Respite care is available in the above if the client has a
current ACAT assessment.
Social Worker
Anglicare provides a monthly visiting Social Worker covering:
family support, as well as relationship and personal counselling.

appointments.
Speech Pathologist
Visits on a needs basis. Referral is not necessary.

Specialist Rural Worker
Now available to provide one to one counselling and support
to those in need; along with community education on relevant
topics. Can be contacted on Monday Friday between 9 am - 5

Telehealth
Videoconference facilities for client consultation, staff
development & training and administrative use. These facilities
are available for community use at a cost per call. Contact:
